Sunday at Sawdust

The family all wanted to get out and do something relaxing, so on Sunday we went down to Laguna Beach for the Sawdust Art Festival. It was a lot of fun! First, the weather was completely unlike typical SoCal July-it was cool, mid-70s and cloudy all day, which made it very pleasant for walking around. Second, crowds were much less than what we normally encounter on weekends in Laguna-we were able to find a good parking spot quickly and with no fuss.

As a result, the three of us spent several hours enjoying ourselves, walking around and taking in the art. We watched a demonstration of glassblowing, gawked at some neat sculpture and photography and enjoyed the shade under the eucalyptus trees and folk art scene. I bought a glass winestopper for Minette carved in the shape of a jellyfish swimming in the ocean, it was quite neat-looking. Jana had tremendous fun listening to a live performance by a hillbilly-style band, she bounced around dancing with several other little girls in front of the musicians and went up to several audience members in the first row of seats to say hello and project maximum cuteness at them. I got an excellent Mexican dinner when Minette suggested we drive to San Juan Capistrano in the late afternoon and stop at one of my favorite restaurants, El Adobe. I got some first-rate nachos, a chile relleno and a salad with some awesome cilantro dressing.

We stopped on the way home at Minette's best friend's house in Diamond Bar to say hello, and Jana spent some time playing with our friend's three-year-old daughter, then we went home. A very relaxing and enjoyable day all around!
