Saturday was a Big Project Day...we cleaned out our garage top to bottom. I keep catching myself calling it "Dad's Garage" even though I suppose its ours now because I think this is the first time some of the items in storage were taken out in at least three decades.
Minette did a great job organizing the cleanup-she recruited her parents and a family acquaintance to help and the whole thing was done in about six hours. I felt a little sad because a lot of Dad's old stuff had to be thrown away-things like old jackets, shooting targets and other stuff that had simply been sitting collecting dust for too many years to be any good--but we also found some surprising mementos, like pictures from my parents' wedding, my elementary school yearbooks and Star Wars toys from the 1970s. I donated a large portion of Dad's books to the local library. After we were done, it was amazing...the garage is now clean and we gained around 2 feet of room on each wall.
Sunday both Minette and I were quite tired from garage cleaning, so we went to early church service and afterwards out to lunch in Pasadena. We tried the new Umami Burger restaurant, which I highly recommend...it's a little pricey but the food and service is excellent. I had a burger with short ribs as a topping. Yes, you read that right, and it tasted great. Jana ate sweet potatoes fries and talked to the servers and other diners at length in baby talk...I saw one serious-looking guy in a group that looked like serious business powerlunchers in suits give her several surreptitious waves while keeping his face completely unsmiling. :)
Afterwards, we came home and Minette napped and did some watering. I watched Jana and played some Dragon Age 2. It was very funny when we all watched "Big Bang Theory" later in the evening together because Jana was bouncing up and down and dancing while the theme song played and she says "Bang!" at the end. :)
All in all, a very productive and enjoyable weekend.
