Orwell Called It

A buddy of mine had the best quote about the countless fandom wank and anon sites. "They used to be so much better as funny drama comms, not SOCIAL JUSTICE CENTRAL."

By the way, if you're the type of person who's constantly whining about how delicate and preshus you are and how you need to be handled like a glass menagerie and yet you're an active ( Read more... )

Right? When it stops being and starts being a chore, it's time to bail.

Also, writing derogatory m/m fiction makes you as much a queer activist as watching SoulPlane and Amos & Andy makes you anti-racist.

Just saying.

The icing on the cake? A lot of slash fic is so misogynist that it's unbelievable. Female characters (especially if they're the pretty boys' canon love interests) are bashed relentlessly as sluts, whores, bitches, harpies, etc. These authors don't want yucky women getting in the way of their hot manlove with their poseable fuckpuppets!

What makes Animal Farm particularly a good example is that it was originally published in 1943 but withdrawn lest it impugn Uncle Joe, one of the greatest of the Big 3 Allied leaders during the war. That was a good post about slash-writing, but unfortunately too many people prefer to tell others what they think should be so without realizing that in so doing they vindicate the points you raise quite efficiently. >.>

And proving my points over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Unfortunately, quite so. The really stupid part of it all is that everything you say is both a necessary and truthful thing to say, if they'd simply steel themselves to listen to someone else instead of only to what they want to hear.

The straight up role reversal of the hypocrisy of some people once they've left the "directly benefit me and makes me comfortable with my current behavior" zone makes my teeth itch. I've seen it way too often and I've been struggling on what to think/do about it and so far I've got nothing.

*pinches bridge* Oh god I've *known* people who would say something like that. . . >

this may be a sideways reaction: but I once worked for a Managing Director as his PA/secretary, sharing rooms with the Financial Director and one more employee ... and we were supposed to be the more equal in the line 'everyone is equal, some are more equal than others'... I didn't last long - with hindsight I'm glad

Exactly!!!!

And I'm loving this entitlement to some of these clowns thinking they're entitled to have a voice on my blog, think they have a claim on my time and my energy.

DEAR WHITE PEEPUL: Slavery is over. DEAL!!!!!

now may be the time to tell you that the one employees with that attitude of entitlement was actually a POC and disappointed I wasn't sharing that attitude

but yeah, entitlement seems to be what is destroying my fandom (Torchwood)... I want the story told my way - I've even had that from one reader recently - I've been more restrained than you but she got the message eventually
