This makes me think of when one of the gay clubs in Melbourne made a policy on this, and straight people-- including straight people who were openly homophobic-- started whinging about "reverse discrimination." I remember letters in the paper coming in from straight guys suggesting that mainstream clubs become "straight only" clubs. It was like people had a bigger problem with there being space that was all about people who weren't them than the fact that they felt left out and marginalised.

Just... WTF? There wouldn't have been a need for such policies if people didn't act like dickheads to begin with. Having heard some horror stories about straight dudes annoying women in lesbian clubs and wanting threesomes, I can see why such policies come into place.

Ugh, this reminded me of the sole bad experience I've ever had at a gay club. I was there with my best friend, and we were holding hands and dancing together, etc, and this gross, gross, OLD straight dude kept following us around, and finally caught up with us and wanted to know if we'd be interested -- and that's as far as he got before my BFF was like, "NO. FUCK OFF." And luckily he did, but it was eewwww, horrible. And I suppose that happens to lesbians all the time, and that's just awful. (It happens to straight women all the time, of course, which is part of why we were at a gay bar anyway. The last time I was at a straight bar with a girlfriend of mine, and a guy hit on me, I told him I was married and not interested, and he went OFF on me about how I had no RIGHT to be in a bar if I wasn't available. WHAT??? WHAT NOW??? Argh. Men.)

What the FUCK? So married people can't hit the town and enjoy themselves like anyone else can? I didn't realise clubbing was about being available. Hell, for me, when I used to get out, it was more about catching up with friends, listening to some good music, dressing up a bit, having a few drinks and not, you know, being at home and being bored, or being at work.

Damn, if my clubbing experiences were just about picking up, I'd be solely disappointed.
