Ryou was only just closing the drawer after hiding his pills away as Yaha appeared at the doorway. It couldn't be said that he was in any way glad to see his superior. Beyond the expected dislike that employees often felt for their bosses, Ryou felt outright repulsed by the blonde crossdresser. For one, he felt Yaha's appearance made the department appear ridiculous. But even if he had dressed like a normal man should, his behavior remained highly inappropriate. For example, the fact that he was using Ryou's given name as if they had any kind of informal bond of friendship was presumptuous and irritating.

But Ryou's face looked no more irritated than it did when presented with any situation. Even if they were friends, warmth would not grace his features. In this environment, the appearance of amicability was unnecessary ( ... )

Yaha wasn't going to get the hint. That didn't surprise Ryou. When his superior was in need of entertainment, he was hardly concerned with others' feelings on the matter. Ryou suspected that even if a high-profile serial murder case had landed in his inbox today, Yaha would expect him to push it aside for his company.

Ryou turned his chair and his attention away from his computer, granting Yaha the audience he so desired. It was simply easier than trying to balance the two. He didn't exactly relax but he did lean back in his seat, taking his mug in hand. "There are no exceptionally noteworthy cases today," he replied. "And as the morning has just begun, I don't find it prudent to take a break yet. Your concern is appreciated." He took a sip from his coffee and hoped Yaha would leave him be by the time he finished swallowing.

Ryou did not flinch when Yaha's fingers brushed his cheek, although inwardly he recoiled in disgust. He was not one to accept or welcome anyone's touch, let alone this particular man. However, this man also had the power to fire him, and as his position in the Omega primarily concerned the control of information, he absolutely could not risk his job in the police.

He shut his eyes for a moment, battling back his migraine and the sickly feeling in his stomach that was his Persona aching to escape. Especially as his irritation rose. He exhaled slowly and set his mug back on the desk. He could tolerate this a few minutes longer.

"Since we have established that your worry is unnecessary," he said quietly, lifting his chin, "is there anything else you require, Chief?"

The sight of Yaha licking the sweat off his fingers made Ryou lift an eyebrow, but he managed to suppress the shudder that threatened to run through him. Or at least, to disguise it as a feverish shiver. His skin, after all, was now burning to the touch.

He didn't know what purpose taking his glasses off could serve, but it immediately made Ryou paranoid that his eyes had begun to show the faint glow that preceded a Persona summoning. He bowed his head self-consciously. "Chief," he protested, albeit with no emotion in his voice. "This is the busiest time of day. Perhaps you should return to your office before anyone grows concerned over your absence."

While Yaha scrutinized him, Ryou only waited patiently with his eyes lowered to avoid that discomforting stare. If it would take one good look for Yaha to be satisfied enough to leave him be, then he could have that much. Ryou, in the meantime, was still busy trying to keep his illness from becoming apparent. Even though his body still trembled subtly now and then.

When the blonde announced his arrival, Ryou's shoulders actually sank a little in relief. Shortly lived, as a split-second later the glasses were snatched off his face. The move reminded him of bullies on the playground, and for a moment his frown deepened severely.

However, when he raised his gaze to glare at Yaha, he was met with glowing amber eyes. His breath left him in a soft sigh. Something... had changed.

Those eyes lifted a great weight from his shoulders. It was as if every worry fled his mind immediately, replaced with a warmth and love so overpowering that he felt weak... in the most pleasant way. As one who has labored for hours feels when he can finally rest.

"Yes," he replied softly, the iciness gone from his voice. He couldn't remember it had even been there. It seemed to him that Yaha had come into the office like sunshine and now he was simply basking in the glow. Of course he loved Yaha. Even a heart that was locked to all other feeling was bursting with love for Yaha.

His cheeks flushed deeper than the fever had made them and his hands came to rest on Yaha's hips, steadying him on his lap. He met that kiss with a virgin's uncertainty. No one had ever gotten this close to him before.

It wasn't the appearance of Hobbes that broke the spell. Ryou was prepared to ignore that. However, the moment Yaha turned away from him, that all-encompassing warmth went out like a light and Ryou returned to the icy steel that was his usual demeanor. He turned his eyes to the floor, trying to make sense of what had just happened. It wasn't that he forgot his actions, only that it seemed he had been watching someone else perform them. His hand went to his mouth to confirm what he believed had just happened and found his lips still moist ( ... )
