It was shaping up to be an ordinary day in Terra. There wasn't any business to take care of so Kanji was just taking a break from hanging around his mother's textile shop. It was nice and warm out, perfect weather for a walk. When he reached the outskirts of Chinatown, he noticed something glimmering in the sunlight, all spread across the sidewalk. At first he thought it was broken glass, but when he crouched down to get a better look, he realized it was metallic. Actually, it looked a little like someone had exploded a Capri Sun bag. "Cool," he muttered, mostly at the idea of putting a bomb in a Capri Sun bag. He reached out to touch one of the flakes.
"The hell?!" he exclaimed as the flake practically jumped onto his finger. There was a moment where it seemed like liquid just sticking there, and then a second later it absorbed right into his skin. Kanji stared at his finger for a good long while, thinking he definitely should have paid more attention in science class.
And then all of a sudden he stopped caring. He got back to his feet, smoothing out his shirt and his hair. He caught his reflection in a store window. Oh, he looked good today. The whole outfit he was wearing had been hand-tailored by himself, and for some reason he was proud of that fact right now. After a few seconds more of preening, he continued on his way.
