Sasuke contemplated leaving. He could spend an hour of freedom--doing what? Anything other than spending time with his adoptive "father" at least. But there wasn't much he would feel motivated to do, on his own. Practice more, do useless homework... Maybe spend some time at the library.
But though he contemplated what he might do in an hour of freedom, Sasuke didn't move, waited patient and still outside the school gates for his guardian. The remaining students filed out of the school, some waved at him, most of them ignored him as steadily as he ignored them.
He couldn't relate to them and their concerns. So he didn't try. In the beginning his solitary nature had attracted admirers, and then his small stature had attracted those who had wanted to assert their dominance over him. A few fights between classes, bodies slammed against lockers, bigger, older students locked with their faces pressed hard against cold metal while Sasuke casually increased pressure on twisted arms--a few encounters like that had given him a reputation, and he'd been left alone entirely.
He didn't mind. Being left alone was fine. He had nothing to talk about with his so-called peers. Parents? Homework? Parties? Everything of his life in public was just a lie.
And one of those lies would be arriving any moment. Sasuke steeled his composure against the coming trial. "Family" time with the Hatter always made his stomach turn.
He let his legs stretch a little, shifted, his backpack seemingly weightless on his shoulders as he scanned the street for the Hatter. He just had to get through the public routine, the song and dance of time spent with his guardian, before he could return to the labs. At least they left him alone when they didn't need him for tests, there.
