Aww, don't feel sad! Things are changing a little at a time. There's an evolution to the awareness of things like this. It won't happen all at once.

My favorite actress is Salma Hayek, and she's brown! But she's not on tv. I wish there was someone like her on tv! My favorite tv show is CSI. There are two versions of this show, and I watch the one set in Las Vegas. One of the main characters is a hunky black man, and a more minor character is a sexy, hip, black girl.

When I was a kid in the 70's things were a lot different. Black people were shown as comic relief only. And I don't remember ANY latino characters of any kind, except Ricky Ricardo on reruns of I Love Lucy.

Here's Salma. She's so pretty I want to eat her with a spoon.

I am glad that there are people who think like you do... I wasn't aware of the CSI girl, since I don't much watch the show.

I am glad it's the 2000s and not the 70s or the 60s. I love those eras, for their music and hippy-ways, but... boy, would it had been bad for me due to colour issues.

I hope one day there won't be so many whites-only cool shows.

Yeah. It sucks. I wish I could point out shows with Latinos or Blacks... but the most I can come up with is Clark's friend in Smallville. The other two shows that had a young, pretty Black female character got cancelled years ago: Millennium and Firefly. Oh, and Law & Order had a young Latina lawyer back in the... first season, was it? The lawyer is now blond and whiter than white.

Oh! But Ice T is on SUV, and he's a very cool character. And don't forget Benjamin Pratt. But, yeah, it's mostly Law & Order casting minorities. Most of the stuff on ABC and ABC Family and Fox and CBS and NBC? So white-washed it's pathetic. I guess you could argue that Ray Romano kinda, maybe has some colour... But he's not really meant to be a Latino.

Fuck 'em, mate.

Oh! And I forgot House. Omar Epps as one of the smartest doctors, the one House is most challenged by.

Carlos Ponce was a regular in Seventh Heaven, a very cozy show. BTW, I'm Puerto Rican and I'm white-skinned with green eyes.

Oh, I didn't know Ponce was in that show! Nice to know.

Why is your response anonymous? It does not speak well of you.

Wanted to add there was a Liz Torres in the Gilmore Girls episode I watched yesterday, latinos come in all sizes and colors so they're harder to spot...and I would say Puerto Rican shows and Univision shows are the first to 'whitewash' their culture.

That's precisely MY point.
I want to see PRs as the majority of them are --- brown.
Liz Torres is nice, but she's not what I mean. Yes, I know plenty of the blue-green-eyed PRs are on Tv. Now, can we see some brown-eyed darker ones (most of the country looks like that)?

Oh, and I wasn't bashing anything or blaming any station or any nation. I was commenting about the reality of what I see. I don't blame the USA, and it's not just their fault.

Why is your comment anonymous?
Don't you think what you have to say is worthy of your Id?

This is so ironic that I'm reading this in your journal... cause I had this same thought while driving home Saturday evening from work. I think about racial issues sometimes, and it crossed my mind the very same thing... that there are so many white based shows. And I thought... hmm... how many shows are about black families? Or latin families?

I am glad you have this sensitive side, Ginger!

Yeah I think I've always been considerate to race issues. But I think when I took sociology and we would talk about class struggles it opened my eyes more. Also, I've had many friends from other countries.
