Planning

There are a few things on my mind today.

1) I'm now pretty darn sure that I've gained a noticeable amount of weight this semester. Not having access to a scale, I've been wondering for a while, but just judging from the fit of my clothes, I think that I can be pretty sure about this now. It's not really surprising, since I haven't been watching it at all this semester, but I'd like to start being more selective about what I eat and how much I eat between now and the end of the semester because I'm pretty sure that it will be more challenging to lose the weight at camp than at school. Pilgrim Lodge food is wonderful. :-)

[On the same topic, I've been helping one of my closest friends from 'home', Michele, with her own weight struggle. She was going on about how difficult her classes were and how hard she was working at them and also lamenting how much bigger she'd gotten in the last few years. I reminded her that losing weight couldn't be any harder than the crazy classes she was taking, so it wasn't a question of ability to work at it so much as lack of structure and external expectation/monitoring. So, I offered to be her 'Professor' and create a nutrition class just for her. She is required to write down everything she eats each day as well as any exercise she gets, which counts as extra credit. Mon, Wed, and Fri are due dates for her to send me a copy of her food journal, so I know she isn't falling behind. Once a week, I go over her journal for that week and comment on everything I feels merits mentioning. I give her praise, criticism, and suggestions as to what she could be doing better and what she should keep doing. I make sure to always give the nutritional/scientific reasoning behind what I say, and neither of us are allowed to give comments that are deprecating or not constructive. I then give her a grade for each day as well as an overall grade for the week. It's working pretty well for both of us so far and she's really getting into it. Her enthusiasm is what's going to make this a success. I wouldn't normally presume to take a role like this, since I would be afraid of coming off as 'know-it-all-"ish or bossy or something, but Michele and I have been best friends since we were 3... so we know each other well enough and have been through enough that this can only be helpful, I think (and so does she). She's really grateful to me for helping her with this.]

The above duties are also making me more aware of my own food choices, so it shouldn't be too big a deal to tailor what I'm consuming more carefully.

2) I'm hosting an admitted student tonight and another one tomorrow night. I really like doing this, but I'm a bit concerned that I'm going to not be able to go to as much of the TToN cast party as I would like because of my charge. I don't want to bore her and she is here to experience Brandeis, so taking her off campus may not be the best plan... and (this just occurred to me) it may also be VERY MUCH against the rules of being a Host... *desire to swear*... ugh. We'll see how this works out. I also haven't heard from my tonight student yet, so I really hope she doesn't call me and ask to meet up while I'm in Waltham today.

3) I'm going shopping with Steph and Phoebe this afternoon for costuming pieces for Festival. I'll be looking mostly for a yellow button-down shirt and red shoes, but Steph and I are also going to give our more-experienced mentor a fashion show of what we have so far so that she can give us feedback. So I may be looking for other things as well, based on the response I get. In any case, the whole process should be lots of fun and I'm looking forward to it. :-) After that I have the TToN cast party, which I am really looking forward to, but which will no doubt be complicated by the presence of my admitted student charge. Eheu... we'll have to see how this all works out.

4) Primary goal between now and 1PM: Clean room like it's never been cleaned before. I want to get everything in order for both the costuming and the prospective. It's not atrocious as is, but there are lots of little things that I've been needing to take care of anyway, so now would be a good time to see to them. I also need to go grab food at some point. Though, I'm not hungry yet today. Also, I need to check how much cash I have, since I may want to stop by an ATM before going to the thrift store.
