My mother is my stand partner.

Things normal stand partners don't normally say :

"FIX IT!" really loudly, when the wind blows the music during the concert.

"Don't encourage her," when another musician pays a compliment.

"Is it raining?  Is it raining?"  five minutes later, "Is it raining?" while you're trying to read alto clef.

Normally it wouldn't even be an issue, since I play violin and she plays viola. But for my road trip, when I emailed the conductor and said, "Hey, I'm gonna be in town... can I play?" it was already pretty close to the concert date and he'd already hired all the violins he needed. He asked if I would play viola instead, and I figured it would be good for me, at least in terms of building my chops on a different instrument and in a different clef.

Terribly bad for my psyche, though.
