Yesterday morning, I arrived in Delaware from Atlanta at approximately 4 AM. It was a long, exhausting drive, but I did get to wave at the Washington Monument and the Capitol as I came through Washington, D.C. I also spent a fair bit of time being followed by a creepy truck with a big, lighted cross on its front grill. It was even scarier than those teeth I've seen on the front of trucks. Yikes!
In Delaware, I met a friend of mine with whom I've been talking on the internet for 12 years without ever meeting in person. We went into Philadelphia to see the Museum of Art. Oh my gosh! That place is HUGE. Seriously. I should have budgeted at least three solid days of art museum attendance! Its current featured exhibit is late Renoir, which is where I started my day. A spectacular number of breathtaking, very famous paintings. I could barely believe it. And all the other exhibits were equally fantastic. We weren't really allowed to take photos, but you can see I got a few anyway!
I also managed to pay a visit to the clothespin statue I've loved ever since I saw a photo of it online. I didn't get out of the car, but it made me happy just to be there.
Came back to Delaware, and FELL ASLEEP for approximately 12 hours. Seriously, I have been woefully sleep-deprived since I left Oklahoma. I'm glad to have an apartment to myself for a while today, to write my ASTA article, practice violin, wash clothes, and deal with my business stuff. I'm also getting in touch with the folks I'm gonna try to visit in the next week or so to make plans. This is already the best road trip I've ever taken -- and it's only the begining!
