The. Hell. Okay, look, I know the rest of the world is not the US. And I know we have our own knee-jerk reactions to things that make no sense to other countries. But stoning children for wearing jeans? Seriously? Because they're "Western", so they might be gay Satanists? Really?
And these deaths--everyone's got an inaccurate count, everything from "dozens" to "hundreds"--are definitely not the first, considering the wide-sweeping powers of detention and execution the military police have. But as it stands now, your best chance of dying in Iran is to look different.
These kids were killed because they had piercings; because they had short hair, because they wore jeans and t-shirts; I mean, yes, it's tragic that gay teens were also killed in this, but at least that one makes some sort of (stupid but religious) sense. Killing kids because they might be something, though...How many of these teens were practicing Muslims, deeply devout, who just adopted jeans and different hair styles? How many teens were killed because they took a vacation to another country and a friend talked them into a nose ring? How many teens were killed because they wore black?
And the big thing for me is...this is the rounding up we heard about. Which means day in and day out, in this country and others, hive-minded Visigoths are killing their future, every. single. day.
Well, now I'm depressed.
