The Katrina Replicant Meme! Check it out, and check out the rare appearance of my actually using the word meme to describe the not-meme that this and ALL OTHER SO-CALLED MEMES ARE...but that's ranting for another day. Here's the deal. The fellow behind Real Kato Online, Ken, will donate $5 to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, once I post this and then tell him. He'll give an additional $5 to disaster relief if I offer to do the same thing.
So, direct from the Cat's-gonna-kill-me department, here goes:
I can't afford a dollar for the Red Cross. I can't even afford a dime. But I know I have at least six hundred pennies in the savings jar, right now, so for at least the next six hundred non-anonymous, original comments I get on this post, I'll donate a penny down at Lowe's, which will--with their matching funds program--automatically turn into two pennies for the Red Cross.
In addition, if even one person confirms to me and to Ken at Real Kato that they're linking to this to spread the Katrina Meme, remember, there's that additional $5 donation from him. And an additional penny donation from me. Bloggers rule, guys. Honestly. We break the news faster, we seem to care longer. I'm steadily being convinced of this.
And yeah, it sounds pitiful, pennies and all, but...hey, my brain won't let me back down. How's that sound--the desperately poor and unemployed helping the desperately poor and unemployed?
Hells, our government's doing a bang-up job, why shouldn't I join in?
