Random, Incoherent Updates

- Glow (@ the Santa Monica Pier)

Ended up not going because I spent that Saturday backing up my Mac and trying to install Leopard, which took a lot longer than expected. By the time the event started I felt too lazy to even want to leave the apartment. However, I'm sure similar events like this will occur again sometime in the near future.

- 365 Project...

Is dead. If only I had the willpower to endure for a few more months I would've actually completed a year's cycle. But... when you realize that you're consistently taking uninspired photos of shit - complete, and absolute shit - it's time to throw in the towel. I don't believe in photographing things for the sake of fulfilling a day's queue if the subject isn't interesting to begin with. That's just a waste of time, space, and effort. I swear, for a few days straight I did nothing but photograph the exact same thing because I just ran out of ideas; that's how bored I got with this. In the light of this situation though, 365 has helped nurture a habit to bring my camera everywhere I go, so that when time comes where there is something worth capturing a split instance of I'll be ready for it.

- Work

Has been going ever-so-slightly downhill. June was a shitty month for a lot of people, including myself. In such a condensed period of time I witnessed numerous people in the office getting laid off, two of which happened to my co-workers on the creative team. It was incredibly heart-breaking, and I felt like the atmosphere in the office just wasn't the same without either of them being there. Since then, me and my other junior-designer co-worker have been left to pick up the slack, and work's just been piling up like crazy. The leads have been jumping around playing double-roles as designers and project managers; but they're usually stuck in meetings most of the time that the bulk of design work now falls on our shoulders. Not that I can complain about there being work - because hey, having something to do during the day passes time. But when you're consistently getting the same kind of work, you start to feel like one of those factory workers who's automated a process for themselves, in such that completing a task no longer requires any kind of conscious, creative thought process. It's monotony - and it's driving me up the wall. Even worse is that most of the time these assignments are handed to us on an ad-hoc basis, to the point where you spend probably a third of your day playing mental tetris, rearranging your priorities list because people don't have the foresight to give you a bulleted outline of requested assets and their respective deadlines early on.

I'm trying to remain optimistic though, because I understand that regardless of where you're employed there's always going to be some trial of treading along extremely bumpy roads. The best any of us can do is simply ride it out.

- The Daily

I got a re-dying job to my hair and a cut on Sunday. My hair color is now back to more natural hues, although it's still far lighter than my original shade. I'm strutting around wearing a reddish-brown on my head. Definitely better than the loud, pasty blonde streaks I sported for the last couple of months.

- Comic Con

In a last minute feat I managed to get my name added to a list of ABC Family staffers who will man the ABC Family booth at this year's San Diego Comic Con. If you're going to be there, stop by and say hi. I will be working Saturday and Sunday, passing out free junk and probably stalking you to create a user account at our network's website. Hope to see you there.

blah, life
