Some kind of life update

Dude, I am not helping myself this Spring Break by sleeping so late and sleeping in so late! I went to sleep at 6 this morning and woke up at 5 in the afternoon!!! But it has been nice to catch up on sleep, if you will call it that. I have resolved, though, to just take it easy this week before kicking my ass back in gear for the next. I've got study abroad errands to take care of, as well as the JAC site to finish up on, and then to start working out a design for the UCLA Go Global contest. Lastly, last week I received an e-mail from a USC grad student who's planning on starting up a small production company with a friend, and he wanted to know if I'd be interested in doing a logo for them. I haven't decided if I want to do it yet mainly for a good number of reasons: 1) it's non-paid, 2) there's no guarantee that whatever I do for them will actually be used, 3) if I have to ever meet up with the guy in person and he's based by USC area, transportation would be a bitch.

There's a couple other reasons, too, but these three are the main ones that are causing me to hesitate. A lot of other designers in the professional realm have often warned against accepting clients who say they can't pay you, but say that your work will be great for a portfolio piece, etc. etc. -- which is a really sneaky way of getting free labor. But for me, a student who has no professional background, I'm still wondering what I should do. On one hand, yes, this would be a good opp. for me to try my hand at something that's outside of school; yet, on the other that means whatever time and effort I put into this project will undoubtedly cut into my school time once break ends. And if the logo won't even be used, what good does that do for me? Yeah, a "portfolio piece," but one that caused me to sacrifice classes in the process. Also, I'm sure that working out this logo with them is not a week-long job only. Regardless, I'd better respond to him soon... Ah, decisions can suck so badly sometimes.
