X-Men: First Class (aka Brokeback Mutants)
I FINALLY saw X-Men: First Class. Spoilery reactions (as well as spoilers for s7 of Smallville) under the cut.
Afsjlfafklg, this movie absolutely destroyed me. I watched it last night and by the end of it I was a crying mess. I seriously didn't expect to get this emotional over a stupid superhero movie, but from the moment Charles got shot I pretty much spent the rest of the film sobbing uncontrollably. :'(
That fact aside, I really liked it. One thing I was kinda bothered by, though, was the treatment of women and people of colour. The only black guy died halfway through the film, and all the mutant girls ended up joining the dark side (aka Erik). And this in a movie which is supposed to be all about people who are discriminated against for being "different", etc. Pretty disappointing, imo.
But on the bright side, there was the epic and tragic love story of Erik and Charles (which was the best thing about the movie, tbh). Ugh, they were so beautiful together. ;____;

Something else I noticed were the parallels between Erik/Charles and Clark/Lex (from Smallville). First of all, there's the whole best-friends-who-become-enemies thing, of course. But more specifically, there were two scenes in the movie which reminded me very strongly of similar Clark/Lex moments: the first time Erik and Charles meet (Charles saves Erik from drowning), and their very last scene on the beach where Charles is lying in Erik's arms. Here, have some visuals:
Erik: We're brothers, you and I.
Lex: I love you like a brother, Clark, but it has to end this way.

Even the dialogue is similar (although the situations are very different). I wonder if the creators tried to mirror those scenes on purpose, or if it was purely coincidental. In any case, I like it! Tragically doomed superhero/supervillain OTPs ftw! \o/
ANYWAY. Now that I've seen it, I can finally read all the Erik/Charles fic I've been hoarding for weeks. Yay! :D
