Oh. Ohhhhh.
This episode was so awesome, but I feel so sad about Merlin's dad. The actor playing the dad sold it to me, and then Colin fucking Morgan. God, he's like David Hewlett. What emotion is there that he CAN'T get across?? To go so effortlessly from lighthearted humor to heartbreaking drama. R-E-S-P-E-C-T, man.
Okay, sadness aside, this episode was about three things.
1) Colin Morgan acting the SHIT out of the ep.
2) Arthur showing every facet of his personality that makes him AWESOME.
3) Merlin and Arthur and their big love. My GOD.
"Though it pains me to admit it, I do enjoy your surly retorts." and
"I get it. I'm a prince, so we can't be friends. If I wasn't a prince..."
"What?"
"We'd probably get on." and
"No man is worth your tears." (NOBODY PUTS BABY IN THE CORNER)
My only trouble is that while I understand the plot reasons behind it, it frustrates me SO MUCH that Arthur doesn't know. On the one hand, it's like UST, and I want it to last as long as possible, because the longer it lasts, the sweeter the reveal. On the other, it's getting so OBVIOUS. And sometimes, Merlin NEEDS him to know.
Random things of awesomeness:
- Merlin's scream of rage throwing a guard into a tree
- Merlin's dad, who looked like Scott Bakula and sounded like Liam Neeson. I was so sad that he died, and not only because of how it tore Merlin up. I so wanted their relationship to develop. *sigh*
- Sir Leon, for getting the knights to be competent for once and for being awesome until the very end. (SIR LEON, HOW COULD THEY GIVE HIM THE DEATH OF A REDSHIRT?)
- Gaius and Gwen's conversation
- Gaius in general
- Arthur defying Uther in a mature way
- Every single scene with Arthur and Merlin. God. I haven't loved their interaction this much since Labyrinth of Gedref. ♥
If they start off S3 with Arthur being a dick again, I will KILL something.
Man. I need a reveal fic right about now. *goes looking*
