Gold Rathian vs Silver Rathalos
Silver Rathalos is proving a challenge and not in a good way. I've succeeded in getting the thing to the "almost dead" stage twice, however I keep running out of time. In contrast, I've been able to take down a Gold Rathian within half an hour on a good day, 48 minutes on a really bad day. The fact that the Rathalos spends so much time in the air is a major part of the problem, and the fact that all of its fireballs are single (and therefore short) is a minor part of the problem. I have reached the conclusion that I need "anti-wind" armor, which is okay insofar as I've planned for a long time to make a set.
Unfortunately that means killing a Black Diablos a number of times and trying to get the right rare items to make three pieces of armor. Or maybe I could just recruit someone to help me kill the Rathalos faster; the big thing is I keep running out of time.
Either way it's back to waiting for people online to show up again. (They did not show up tonight.)
Random notes: the Silver Rathalos makes the same noises as the Red Rathalos, whereas the Azure Rathalos usually makes this disturbing screeching noise that genuinely unnerves me for reasons I don't entirely understand. (It sounds almost like a roar played backwards.) Nevertheless, Silver behaves enough like Azure that killing the thing is a real pain.
I have no earthly idea how the heck I completed Wyverns of Land and Sky this past May. I don't know what was going through my head, but I was using a lance and was surprisingly accurate with it. (Stab, stab, step... stab, stab, step...)
I can't seem to get into that "in the zone" mindset now. I keep missing the wings.
I'll try it again with the Roaring Wyvern lance and see how I do. It does less damage but there's a slight chance it might be longer than the Dragon Rider Spear. (I say "might" because for all I know, it might not be.)
