38)Moonglass - Jessi Kirby (finished July 14th)
A lyrical, slightly haunting story about memory, loss, and growing up, "Moonglass" is both beautifully and realistically written.
If I had a complaint, it is that perhaps the adults in the main character's life are all a little too perfect in their compassion and understanding. However, when that is the worst thing that can be said...? It isn't terrible.
I find it difficult to say much more without giving away too much of the story, which is simple and straightforward. The characters could be out of a summer movie, but seem real nonetheless. Emotion is shown, rather than told, and overall, it is nicely done.
