First Line from my fics

Sep 01, 2008 22:21

My friend Traycer has asked me/us to post the first line of my fics. I'm going to be mean and post the first line of my fics . . . both posted and WIP. I have a lot of them.

O’Neill opened his front door to find Samantha Carter waiting on the other side of the door looking a little nervous. (Awful first fic that I posted under another name)
“Come on Daniel. Let’s go!” (actually two sentences, but . . . who's gonna tell?)
Retired Colonel Jack O’Neill, leisurely carried his cup of coffee and newspaper outside for a peaceful morning read in the seclusion of his backyard.
He felt himself fall to the floor as the gravity field was released, but he didn’t have the energy to prevent it.
This time, I'm the first to awaken.
General Jonathan “Jack” O’Neill munched on carrots while sitting in front of the television in a darkened room.
General Jack O'Neill entered the supermarket at high speed.
After cresting the hill, the cyclist pulled over to the roadside for a short break in the shade of pine trees.

WIPs
The harsh sound of continuous staff weapon fire caused the members of SG1 to crouch into defensive positions while returning fire.
Jack sat back on the arm chair with a long-necked bottle on Guiness balanced between his index and middle fingers.
Samantha Carter walked up to the car door uncertainly.
Major General Jack O’Neill laid back down in his bed with a sigh.
Colonel Jonathan “Jack” O’Neill kept his posture straight, yet relaxed.
Colonel Jack O’Neill kicked a bunch of loose rocks off the mysterious engravings in the stone floor.
General Jonathan “Jack” O’Neill signed his name with a flourish.
Colonel Jack O’Neill was surprised at how quickly the hallucinations started.

Okay, so I tend to start with the name of the person who is the focus of the story and I tend to jump right into the action. I like to make a first sentence that, hopefully, grabs the reader. Sorry Sheryl, I'm too tired to analyze this too deeply. I am, however, focused on the art of writing. I got to attend a writer's workshop lead by Sabine Bauer at Gatecon in Vancouver. That was an interesting lesson in humility and rejuvenated my desire to write again. If RL would only give me the time to do so.

Heading off for some much needed sleep before my first day back to work in almost two weeks. Wish me serenity.
