I possibly got turned onto hoarding in part by my maternal grandmother/grandfather, who were hoarders. Their basement had everything from MARVELOUS antiques to boxes and boxes and stringers of empty toilet paper tubes and gallon milk jugs and anything else that 'might come in handy'.
