Hard as it is to imagine, Angela Davis graduated from Brandeis University about 6 years before I did. She majored in Comparative Literature, and we had the same advisor--the University's specialist in German Romanticism, something neither of us studied.
When we first met, Prof. Engelberg told me that he had been Angela Davis's advisor--she was already notorious in 1970!--and he said that I reminded him of her. At the time, I took it as just one more reason that he was not listening to me. We had neither politics nor literary interests in common. Someone just posted a link to this article about famous queer icons of Black history:
https://www.theroot.com/gay-history-is-black-history-these-10-icons-prove-it-1835618603 Davis's pic is top row, second from the left.
Does anyone else (who knows me in RL, of course) find that she somewhat resembles me?
I found the following article with an even more recent pic. She spoke at her alma mater and at BU this past February. If I let my hair grow and it turned grey, we could be mistaken for relatives.
