So today I cooked okonomiyaki, omurice, takoyaki, and a purple sweet potato pie. I ate one of the three okonomiyaki cakes, one of 5 omurice omelets (and packed a second for tomorrow's lunch), one of almost 2 dozen takoyaki just to taste test, and none of the pie, which I will take to my father's place next Sunday.
It's just weird that in the past 3 years I've come to enjoy cooking for its own sake. Before that, I used to boil some spaghetti, splash ragu on top, tear up a few lettuce leaves, sling some ginger sauce on those, and call it dinner. Now I think about what I have in the fridge during my commute home, plan how best to use what I have a) before anything goes bad and b) to make a good, balanced meal that c) I can pack some of for the next day's lunch.
Of course, I have lots of time on the weekends, so that's when I focus on labor-intensive dishes, and takoyaki and purple sweet potato pie certainly fall into that category. On weekdays I stumble through the front door at 6:30 PM, tired and hungry and not wanting to do an hour's worth of cooking. On days like that I am glad to have the leftovers I cooked during the weekend!
Yeah, I don't know why I bothered to post this either. Want some pie?
