Waiting For My Plane in Vietnam

Dec 20, 2009 07:38

You know what I find amazing? Here I am in Hue, this ancient imperial town in Central Vietnam and EVERYWHERE I go there's freakin FREE WIFI. My hotel was like a military 3-star hotel and they don't charge for their wifi in their lobby. I spend 40 minutes only grabbing the latest Friday Night Lights and Merlin Secrets & Magic last night, whereas AT HOME it would probably take me what, oh, 3-4 hours??? 300kbps download on FREE WIFI IN A 3-STAR HOTEL IN A SMALL TOWN.

Screw you, Indonesia.

Everywhere I go, restaurants, cafes, airports in Vietnam, everytime my BlackBerry did a WIFI search, I always found SEVERAL. And they're all OPEN, not even WPA-protected.

Waiting to board my plane in Hue airport right now. Heading to Saigon (that's Ho Chi Minh City, btw). Grabbing Merlin finale while waiting. I doubt that I have enough time to finish but at least I'll be halfway done, and I'm sure there will be MORE FREE HIGH-SPEED WIFIs IN SAIGON.

Aside from the free wifi, Vietnam is absolutely beautiful. The food is great, the coffee is excellent, the people are friendly. I'm totally a city girl but being in Vietnam is an eye-opener. I was miserable on my 1st day but it's my 7th day now and I only have 2 days left and I think I'm going to be very sad when I leave.

But I'll come back for sure. After all, it's only a plane ride away and no visa required :)

real life, wtf, travel
