The Fires Of Idirsholas

Well, that totally made up for the crap that was The Witch's Quickening. An episode where everyone in Camelot are asleep except for Arthur, Merlin & Morgana. PERFECT. I LOVE this episode.

You know, one thing that amuses me is that Arthur DRAGS Merlin everywhere he goes. Even into battlefield. Like WTF? Why? It's not like Arthur gets out of all that armory & chainmail when he goes to sleep in the forest, does he? I'm convinced that Arthur drags Merlin everywhere because he'd be BORED TO DEATH without Merlin. I don't think the Knights actually TALK to Arthur, do they? XD Well, aside from reporting where they are and what the situation is, yeah, Arthur TOTALLY needed Merlin to keep him entertained at all times.

Love how Arthur immediately pulls Merlin and told him to bolt out of the cave. THE ONLY ONE HE SAVED WAS MERLIN. What about the other Knights of Camelot? Oh who cares about them. Love that Arthur tore a piece of his tunic to tend to Merlin's wound. First battle wound. Arthur says. Can you hear it in his voice? He's SO PROUD of Merlin!

And I can't stop laughing when Arthur, Merlin & Morgana were carrying Uther from room to room, sweeping the floors of the castle with UTHER'S ASS. Oh God. I keep laughing and laughing. I love that in such serious and dire conditions they still managed to turn it into such a COMIC RELIEF. In a way, they made it quite REAL. You know, instead of just cutting the whole scene and Uther just magically ends up in the other room, they actually showed THE DIFFICULT PROCESS of these three people trying to move a snoring king from one chamber to another, with a lot of great humor involved.

I was actually quite worried that Merlin might have to UNDRESS Uther and put some servant clothes on him.

The show haven't been showing a lot of great qualities of Arthur lately aside from the fact that he's a bully, and he's rather daft and spoilt. I love that they showed (especially) in this episode what a courageous prince this Arthur is. That he's such a brave warrior that would charge at seven undead knights head on even when he's all wobbly from the sleeping spell.

LOVE that part when Merlin slapped Arthur awake. OMG. Priceless. I had to rewind the scene over and over and over and over again. It just feels that in this episode, Merlin & Arthur are more like EQUALS. Well, almost. But at least they felt MORE LIKE FRIENDS instead of a Prince and his lowly manservant.

And Merlin, I'm so proud of you. You did the right thing. My heart breaks that he was forced to do poison Morgana, which is something that is TOTALLY AGAINST his entire being. But I'm happy that they're starting to show that Merlin actually has a working logic inside that brilliant head of his to arrive at THE RIGHT DECISION. Good job, Merlin.

Wow, this episode is SUCH A HUGE TURNING POINT. And they did it so well. This episode would've WORKED JUST FINE without "The Witch's Quickening". It could've worked JUST FINE without them having to show all that weak reasoning of why Morgana turned evil in the last episode. We all know Morgana had a bond with Morgause also, she would've come to meet Morgause even without the blowout with Uther last episode. And Morgause could've easily just cast that spell on her to bring Camelot into an enchanted sleep. Can we just pretend that last episode never existed? Anyway, yes, HUGE TURNING POINT. Morgause disappears with Morgana. This is REALLY the point of no return for Morgana. I swear, last week's blowout with Uther is SO WEAK. This week, with Morgana KNOWING that Merlin actually POISONED HER, that totally counts as THE ULTIMATE REASON Morgana completely turns to the dark side and never to return again. It wasn't just anyone who betrayed her, but it was MERLIN, the person she probably would've least expected to betray her. Well, in this case I don't think betrayal is the right word to use for what Merlin did in regards to Morgana, but in Morgana's POV, she would totally see it as betrayal.

And The Great Dragon is free now. Why didn't Merlin INSIST on The Great Dragon to PROMISE that he won't harm Camelot???? Not that it would make ANY DIFFERENCE anyway to The Great Dragon, but I still think Merlin still had the bargaining power to FORCE THE DRAGON TO MAKE SUCH PROMISE. But I guess that wouldn't have made a great continuation, would it? I'm like on the edge of my seat now. We've seen what The Great Dragon is gonna do in the magic crystal. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IN THE NEXT EPISODE!!!!!! Although I'm totally irked that they had to put in Arthur screaming "GUINEVEEEEEEEEEEREEEEEEEEEEE" in next episode's preview. Argh. Like WHY did they have to put that in?! I still don't feel the Arthur x Guinevere buildup. It doesn't have anything to do with Guinevere, really. It's just too soon, too weak, and wasn't done very well, but that's just me.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.

Thanks, Merlin Producers, for giving us such a powerful episode! I'm thoroughly satisfied. This might just be my favorite episode of Series 2 :)
