With all these memes flying around, I guess I neglected to mention that I snagged a three-day pass to the Austin City Limits music festival .... FOR FREE!!!
Earlier in the year, Vicky, Mitchell and I were banking on Mitchell getting free press/photographer passes. He got them last year for Vicky and himself. This year, Vicky bought her own pass and wanted me to go as Mitchell's "assistant." Unfortunately, Mitchell didn't get passes, and so we thought all was lost. This late in the game, tickets are upwards of $200, which I could NOT afford.
So, I scrounged some pennies and told Vicky that the most I could spend was about $175, and she said she'd put in some cash if it came out to more. But she also asked around to see if any of her other friends/co-workers had an extra pass. She asked our friend Cait, who works for KGSR (she's also the one who gave us passes to see Ryan Adams a couple of months ago) ... Turns out she had an extra pass, and it's mine for free!!! So, I'm very happy.
Tomorrow afternoon starts off with Peter, Bjorn and John (saw 'em at SXSW and I have no problem seeing them again!) and the weekend will include the likes of Bjork, Bob Dylan, Regina Spektor, Joseph Arthur, and so many more...
......
Tuesday was the first time that Marc Burckhardt showed up for illustration class. I have to say, he is pretty amazing. I don't know why so many people think he's hard to get along with or cold. I found him to be very personable, and easy going. Not as easy going as Jeff Davis or Tom Berno. But I'm not going to school to make friends with my professors. He's very professional, and that's the point. I got a decent crit on my illustration, and he happened to agree with a lot of the crit I gave on other illustrations.
I'm so glad I took the class. About half the people I talked to said that the course is extremely valuable, and that you get what you put into it. The other half said to drop the class and go for something else. I'm guessing those people are the ones who won't survive as art directors or graphic designers. So many people want to take the easy way.

My other classes are going well too. I haven't started my roughs for McEntire's class, but I'll have those done in a few hours. Just in time for Sydney and I to get together and study for our American Literature test on Monday.
For anyone who's had him, am I wrong in thinking that John Blair looks like Guillermo del Toro? Anyway...
The class I'm already dreading is Multimedia. It's not that I can't do the work. I consider myself well-versed in html and website development. But while most comdes assignments require word lists for each, our first assignment in multimedia requires one word list per target demographic, client questionnaires, AND thumbnail sketches (plus a lot of other crap). I dunno. I think it's a good practice to have when creating websites, but its such tedious work. I probably wouldn't change any of those requirements if I were teaching the class, but it still sucks. :P
