Photo Retouching
Originally uploaded by quartermane I was perusing youtube this evening and came across a bunch of videos that detailed photo retouching. Well, not really detailed... See they didn't show HOW they were doing it, but you'd see lines and blemishes go away, eye color popping out, etc.

So I decided to try my hand at it. I've been using Photoshop for 10 years, so I better know something about it. :P

Anyway, the first thing I did was color correct by fixing the levels and removing any color contamination. Then I went in with the healing tool and rubber stamp to remove all the blemishes, freckles, scars, and the moles I'm not particularly fond of (you'll notice I kept my Marilyn/Jake mole and the one on my cheek ... the splotch birthmark is gone as well).

Next I removed the bags under my eyes with the healing tool and brought out the color in my eyes. Now, this is sorta misleading because my eyes are very dark and rarely show any color, but I think the change is subtle enough that it looks natural.

Then I adjusted the curves to bring out some contrast and adjusted the white balance. Then came the major change... the double chin. I basically cloned my neck and disguised the jawline with beardiness.

That's when I filled in a lot of the gaps in my facial hair with cloned hair. I evened out my mustache and chin, then darkened it to look fuller. I also brightened the teeth (chiclets!!), reddened the lips, and added rouge to the parts of my face where I naturally blush... cheeks and forehead.

Finally, I used my high pass filter trick to sharpen the photo. And voila!! There you have a (still shitty but) beautifully retouched photo!
