Okay...I got this from a weird dream I had the other night. Knowing me and my muses, this may not turn out like I hope, but here goes! I'm not going to keep you guess for too long on the connection between Ray and mystery woman. My muses, on the other hand, just might. We'll see. :) Hope you like it!

Summary: Someone from Ray’s past comes to County General. How will her return affect him and Neela?

Ray didn’t remember falling asleep until Neela woke him up. “Coffee?” She held a cup to him and he waved it off. “Yeah. Don’t blame you. Someone let Morris loose again with the coffee.” She put the cup down and looked between Dana and Ray. “How’s she doing?”

“They’re going to move her up as soon as a bed opens.” Ray rubbed his eyes. “God only knows when that will be.” He reached out and held Dana’s hand. “She’ll be okay, though. She’s been through worse shit than this.”

“Ray?” Sam’s voice broke in.

He looked at her. “What is it, Sam?”

“Couple guys here to see you. Say they know you.”

Ray sighed heavily. He stood up and walked out. He looked at Admit and saw the guys there. “Well if it ain’t Dr. Fuckin’ Barnett!” The taller one held his hand out to Ray, but Ray stood staunch. “What? Too good to shake the hand of an old friend?”

Ray scoffed. “Bullshit. Old friend. What the fuck do you want, Nicky?”

“How’s Dana?”

“Like you care.”

Nicky put his hands over his heart and feigned pain. “You hurt me, Barney. Of course I care.”

“Since when?”

Neela stood behind Ray, next to Sam, watching the exchange. Nicky glanced behind Ray. “So, just who are these dolls?” He stepped towards Sam and Neela, only to be stopped by Ray.

“Ones you shouldn’t concern yourself with.” Neela noticed that Ray had at least five inches on the taller one of the two men and wondered why he would want to start a fight with Ray. She felt that, if blows were exchanged, Ray would win. “Again, Nicky, why the fuck are you here?”

“Checking on the tramp.” Nicky looked back at his buddy, laughing. "She's a good lay, I tell you. Course, Barney here would know 'dat. Right, Barney?" He turned around to face Ray, only to be greeted by Ray’s right hook. He fell on the floor, holding his jaw. “What the fuck? That’s fuckin’ assault, right d’ere, I tell you.”

“You bring charges against me and I’ll bring them against you.”

“You ain’t got nuttin’ on us, Barney.” The quiet one spoke up.

Ray laughed. “But I do. All I have to do is go back to New York, say something, and you, Paulie, and Joey will be taken care of.” He straightened his back. “If I see you around this hospital, around Dana, or around me, I will personally kick your asses back to Brooklyn, you hear me?”

The smaller one helped his brother on his feet. “Let’s go, Nicky. He ain’t worth it.”

Nicky stood up and glared at Ray. He got as close as he could. “I’ll be seeing you, Barney, and when I do…” He finished his sentence by spitting in Ray’s face and Nicky and Joey calmly walked out.

Ray wiped the spit off his face and followed. “Why not now, Nicky?”

“What?” Nicky turned around.

“You want to fucking kill me and Daysha, why not now?” Ray held his arms open, challenging Nicky to attack. “Or is it because Paulie ain’t with you and you ain’t shit without Paulie?”

“RAY!” Neela's voice screeched through the bay. “Stop it. All of you.” She stood in front of Ray, thinking she would protect him. “I think you should all just leave.”

Joey looked at Neela. “Whatever you say, doll face.” He pointed a finger at Ray. “This ain’t over.”

“I don’t expect it to be.” Ray lowered his arms.

As soon as Nicky and Joey were a distance away, Neela turned around and looked up at Ray, arms crossed. “He could have killed you, Ray.”

“He wouldn’t have.” Ray turned back to head inside.

“You don’t know that.” Neela followed him. “They obviously hate you and Dana for something and he threatened to…”

“He won’t kill me.” Ray stopped and looked at Neela. “If he kills me or Dana, it gets back to New York and he’ll never see prison time.”

“What? He kills you and he won’t see prison?” Neela was flabbergasted.

“It’s hard to serve a prison sentence from the bottom of the East River, Neela.”

Neela stepped back and watched Ray walk back into the ER. She got to know more about him in the last four hours than she had in the past four years. She ran back inside. “When did you live in New York, Ray?”
