Heart Ring

He'd asked her once for something she couldn't begin to understand at the time and in their confusion they ran from each other. Months later she still didn't properly understand it. Every day she learned a little more about what it meant to be a mate. As their bond grew her heart still pounded when she saw him enter a room and with one touch he could make her moan. The simple words that were so hard in the beginning flowed easily. "I love you. I will stay with you. I'm happy."

The one thing they couldn't say to each other was "I do." He told her that some day he would set aside his collar, and all the responsibilities that came with it, so they could marry. She would take his name, sleep with him every night and even bear his children. The thought was terrifying. Would those children get his blue eyes and the ability to transform into the terrifyingly beautiful giant their father was? Or, poor things, would they be cursed with the ability to see those who were already gone?

He laughed at her worries, at her casting stones at a future neither of them could properly imagine. All the while telling her, "I love you. I will stay with you. I am happy."
