Meta?: Emily rants about Glee Live being the Best Thing Ever.

Something I forgot to add to my first post on The Kiss earlier today

I don't think I need a cut for this one, I'm not actually discussing RPF or the ship itself. Just be warned anyway...

I lie, cut for excessive ranting and no1curr.

I told my mum about the skit, and she said “You do realise they’re not real, right?”.

I replied “BUT CHRIS AND DARREN ARE.”

Which is actually kind of the whole point of the thing, of the tour in general.

I spared her my whole rant about how the Glee Live tour and things like the Klaine skit, having the characters up there on stage in a tangible form, instead of behind a screen, actually makes the characters more ”real” and, combined with the meta-jokes/references and interaction between character/actor, gives the whole thing a lot more grounding in reality. (I’m a lit geek, what up).

Because it does: the fact that the characters are actually tangible and interacting with the world outside of canon makes them, for that single moment, for everyone seeing that on stage in front of them, completely and justifiably real. The very fact that they're blurring the lines between actor and character, whilst it conveys the actor becoming the character, it also conveys the character becoming the actor.

For younger people who are watching, for Shannon who got Chris Colfer's "LIKES IRISH BOYS" shirt; they're not seeing Chris and Darren, they're seeing Kurt fucking Hummel and Blaine Warbler-Anderson shmooping around and being cute and giving them free shit. For them that is Kurt and Blaine 100% real.

For older viewers it's different; we see the blurring of the lines, because we know there are lines to blur (well, not always: do you know I still call Darren 'Blaine' sometimes? I'm probably not as good at differentiating as I say I am). The fact that we see not only Kurt and Blaine, but Chris and Darren, adds a whole new dynamic, a whole other layer of chemistry, and a whole new layer of meaning when you consider meta-jokes (not to mention a whole other ship to ship).

But hey, I doubt there's one of us amongst this fandom who doesn't get a thrill when we see those skits or hear about them--because it's showing us that our ship is real, tangibly physically legitimately real, and who cares if it's not when Chris and Darren are back in their hotel rooms (or room, LOL) being Chris and Darren, it was real and it happened and Klaine or CrissColfer or whoever KISSED and it was REAL and it'll always have happened. You can write things out of a show, out of canon and fandom, but you can't tell half a million people that they didn't see what they saw.

I also spared her my rant on blurring the lines, my one on the involvement of fans and how that’s so important to a show like Glee, and how amazing the cast are for doing shit like this. And the one about how hot CrissColfer is, because I don’t think mama wanna know…

I did, however, squee in her face and jump around before running upstairs again. Because it's good to feel like the people in your head exist outside of it. For now, everything is Klaine AND CrissColfer and nothing hurts.

My mother totally loves me…

(I shall return tomorrow with more of the same shit! Goodnight!)

rps, klaine, chris colfer, glee live, meta, crisscolfer, glee, rant, i can't shut up, darren criss
