DESMOND TUTU

Desmond Tutu is the most adorable old man ever. Nobel Peace Prize winner, Archbishop, and all around cool dude.

I just spent an hour listening to a Q and A with him and his wife and i'm in awe. He is the perfect mixture of intelligence and humor. It was amazing to hear him talk about so man varied subjects. People asked questions on anything from their favorite foods to how the world sees americans and the policies of our current administration. One thing he repeated over and over is that people our age are constantly undermining their power when it was the university students that helped change the stance of the Reagan administrantion toward South Africa. He also said that he was frustrated with the media and how they rarely ever show the good that our generation does, choosing to only focus on the negative.

He also talked about the thing he admired most about American youth was our idealism. He said that he had met with peace corps volunteers and Habitat for humanity volunteers around the world and was stunned and over joyed that people would participate in programmes such as these for no other reason than it improves the quality of someone else's life.

When he would answer a question he would get so excited and animated that you couldn't not smile.

"one thing we have to remember is that religions in themselves are neith good nor bad. What we get from religion is different for every person. There are good muslims and bad muslims. There are good Christians and very, very bad Christians. too often we get into the mindset that only our particular beliefs are the right ones and we need to do everything in our power to break ourselves from that mindset."
