Brazil is fantastic. This trip just gets better and better. Our first day in Salvador we walked around the city getting acclimated. The architecture has a huge European influence and but you can also see the vivid colors of the Caribbean.

It seems like everyone is an artist here. Walking down the streets we passed so many people that were creating and selling art and all of it was beautiful. After walking around a little we found a place to sit and people watch and have a some cocktails. Brazilians make amazing drinks, we had some of the local brazilian drinks and some local beer. The beer comes in 600 mL bottles, tastes unbelievable and is really inexpensive. After that Pia, Kim, Glenn, and I watched the sunset over the harbor.

We made our way back down to the ship and went to a welcome reception where there was a local band and dance group and some capoera (sp?) performers. We danced and hung out for hours.

The next day we were up early and made our way out to Lençois, which is more inland (about 6 hours) and a small town of about 8,000 people. We found an awesome hostel and walked around the town and found a place to have dinner.. The next day we went on a seven mile hike to a great waterfall. A bunch of us went cliff diving and swimming. The landscape was amazing and the hike was difficult but we had a blast. We wanted to do the three day hike but because of time constraints we could not. That night the people that run our hostel (puma and katiera) made us a traditional Brazilian meal that was so, so delicious. Fish, potatoes, rice, bread. It was really nice to have a break from the food on the ship.

We are leaving Lençois today to go back to Salvador on an overnight bus. Tomorrow Pia, Kim, Becky and I are going to go to the market then spend a little time at the beach before the ship leaves.
