Oh Mel...

Aug 01, 2006 11:14

So once, when I was sixteen and getting my first drunk on, I drank so much that I needed to pee. In a subway station I pulled down my shorts and panties and let it flow. Then I fell in it. But then I needed to throw up. I did. Then fell in that. Fun stuff. When I am sober I am happy to announce that I have never rolled in pee or vomit and ( Read more... )

I've been thinking a lot of the same thoughts. I haven't said them aloud, because I didn't want to be seen as defending Gibson's actions. I think calling on Hollywood to "shun" Gibson is overkill and more of a retalitory hit aimed at the Passion of the Christ ( ... )

It's a good point about his dad. My mother says tons of things that I disagree with but besides bitching about her in my friends only posts I would never let anyone say bad things about her or even say in a big group in person that I think my mother is an idiot or something like that. No matter what she is my mother, whether I agree with her or not. They want him to publicly denounce him but that's his dad. Some people have actual respect for their parents and wouldn't think of embarassing them not matter how big an idiot they are.

And yeah I have said things that my mother has spouted over the years to then look back at it and realize that I don't agree with those statements.

We all say racists things mostly without things about them. Things that are normal everyday to us could been seen as racists statements. Who hasn't said as a kid or adult Hey don't be an indian giver! Totally racist. That comes from the white man thinking the Indians were giving them land then trying to take it back. And what about saying, That's a ( ... )

“And as for The Passion of Christ I think it was the original author of the book that made the Jews look bad, not Mel Gibson. No one wants to look like the bad guy but if you are you are.”

Just as the writer of the book is responsible for the content of the book, the creator of the movie (and Mel takes credit for it) is responsible for the content of the movie.

So he is suppose to omit it to make people feel better about themselves? If he had made less real he would have then been accused of watering down the bible.

Oh, I thought you were talking about a book besides the bible that PotC was based on. (It wouldn't surprise me.)

But I stand by what I said: if a book has an offensive message and you make a movie of it that carries the same message, you are definitely still responsible for the message.

Sure, he could have omitted the message. I would have preferred he just didn't make the whole dumb movie.

I don't feel two ways about the movie actually. I watched the last half of it and I will probably never see it again unless I am bed ridden with a lost remote.

He could have omitted it I guess but then it would have beern really no different that any other Christ filled movie. At least there was no singing.

Mel is an entertainer and, provide he continues to entertain, he will reamin succesful. Look at Cruise. Tom Cruise has been batshitinsane for years and he continues to sell tickets.

He was going to produce, direct or whatever this mini series about the Holocaust and ABC pulled it. For someone who hates Jews so much and thinks the Holocuast never happened he sure has an imagination for a mini series.
