Beginning of the End V

The Enforcer walked with the older Frosty Catalyst out to a waiting car. Neither spoke but instead cast suspicious glances at each other. Getting in the car as silent as they walked, the Enforcer started it up and began the drive down the road.

Frosty broke the silence, “Where are we going, Nitti?” he asked brusquely.

The Enforcer replied, “You’ll see.” just as abruptly.

Frosty answered back, “Look Nitti, if we have to work together, then that’s just what we should do. Work -together-.”

Nitti frowned, “And you look here, Frostbite. I do what I’m told, but if you ever think I’m going to like working with a no-good copper like you, you’ve got another thing coming.”

Frosty frowned, but said nothing else as the car continued its journey. Finally the car stopped as the Enforcer pulled over. He got out as did Frosty who gazed suspiciously at his new surroundings. The Enforcer walked towards a building and then turned, saying, “Wait out here. You attract to much attention.”

Frosty frowned once more but then just nodded again. He stood outside and looked around at the scenery. He smiled to himself, remembering the old buildings and stylish cars. Not like the steel and glass monoliths or cookie cutter vehicles of his current era. He then frowned again, wondering where Kymball was and what Capricorn was doing with her. All of a sudden he heard automatic weapon’s fire from inside the building. He rushed in, a field of cold coming up around him, freezing the ground as he walked. Pushing past the flow of people suddenly rushing from the room, his aura clearing a path for him, he saw two men standing in the center, automatic rifles in hand. The Enforcer’s body lay bleeding on the floor as Frosty concentrated, the entire middle of the room freezing solid. Ignoring the gunmen for now, Frosty ran to the Enforcer, unthawing him and checking his pulse. After a few moments Frosty frowned yet again and stood up, thinking to himself. He knew how Frank Nitti, the Enforcer died. He’s seen his corpse himself. But that was years from now. The world was changing and he had no idea how to stop it.
