Again, the pleasure is all mine. ♥ I hadn't heard much about this - I stumbled into the scans first, and looked up the name of the authors quite later on. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised! The Ultimo project is huge - the Lee/Takei partnership is really promising, and I've heard rumors about a possible animation. :) The manga itsel if quite good - Ultimo is lovely - UTTERLY lovely. Characters in the manga can't stop praising his beauty. And his personality is charming. He's a "good kid", if you get what I mean: trusting, sweet, carefree, caring. But he's an awesome fighter as well, and he seems to have... not a second personalty, but a darker side, he uses when protecting Yamato, or fighting Vice. The pairings are all quite cute - Ultimo is so obvious and intent in his interest for Yamato you can't help but cheer him on, regardless if you'd like them better with someone else. And there's much for a fangirl to... well, in my country we'll say "ricamare", but there isn't a fitting english equivalent. Let's say the series offer much to pore over, to think about, dwell on and... makes fanfiction of. All Doji are males, they're all extraordinariouly pretty (Ultimo might be referred to as being breathtakingly lovely, but Vice is referred to have a valiant, proud kind of handsomeness) and they ALL need to bond and make a pledge of love with the masters, also all males. Also, as stated above, I can't help but think that, as opposites, Ultimo and Vice are meant to be, but can't stop that side of them that demands they fight, over and again. Vice likes to fight Ultimo, and that's a given. But Ultimo also has LOADS of fun when fighting vice - fun he doesn't have when fighting any other doji, it seems. But I'm talking about the first episodes here, so the manga might quite well veer into a different direction, in the end. anyway, it's still a good read... you ca find the scans here, if you're interested: http://www.onemanga.com/ULTIMO/ enjoy! :D
After being unable to stop reading from beginning until the last chapter out, I have to say that was really fun and addictive. Like you said, Ultimo *is* lovely, what a beautiful design. The way he sparkles made me laugh so hard, but I loved his eyes. The author's style is really good at getting Uru's eyes to look both beautiful and powerful. I really liked Yamato too, I love we get to see a hero who is more on the manly and brave side. That shower scene and subsequent almost kiss scene, oh my! My only regret is not seeing more of Yamato and Ultimo interacting. I guess I'll just have to continue reading. XD
And Vice is so much fun, he's so over the top in his evilness and anger! And I have to agree with you, the battles between him and Ultimo really feel on a whole other level compared to the others.
I'm surprised at how visible the slash element is too, to me it's pretty clear this is one of those shounen aimed at girls too. ;]
I fail so hard at answering reviews in time, it's not even funny. *clasps hands together before her mouth and bows in apology* Gomen-neeeeeee~!
Speaking of Ultimo, I can't wait for the next chapter to be out. I *think* it's due soon in Japan, but since Viz seems interested in translating the manga, I'm not sure we'l get anymore scanlations. *mourns*
I wish the tanoubon was already out, so I could get it when went to Japan. X3
Uru is the loveliest thing since... since ever. And like you said, the sparkle in his eyes is at the same time something that makes me smile, and something powerful and beautiful. However, I find myself utterly addicted with Vice. He's so aweso~me!
I seriously wasn't expecting the slash. O_O I haven't read Shaman King, so I don't really know what the artists likes/dislikes but I would have nevr, not in a million year guessed that Stan Lee could write something slashable. And yet, the slashy elemts fits the story so well. Makes it all the more interesting (as if the douji, time-travel, yin/yang conflict weren't enough to keep me rooted in my seat, gripping the edges XD;; )
