Boys.
Pretty boys.
Pretty boys who are in fact, dolls/marionettes.
Clockwork dolls, which means: robots.
Robots who're sheer goodness and sheer evilness incarnated.
Goodness and Evilness that are created and then put to sleep for 100 years like sleeping beauties, creatures who're fated to fight, to meet and part for always, in a battle that is a dance that is destiny.
X and Zero anyone?
Karakuridōji Ultimo (機巧童子ULTIMO, Karakuri Dōji Urutimo, lit. "Mechanical Boy: Ultimo"), commonly referred to as Ultimo, is a manga series created by Hiroyuki Takei (Shaman King) and Stan Lee (Spider Man. Yes. THAT Stan Lee. I kid you not).
To honour the truth, this is a not-so-veiled slashy series. Consider that the robot/dolls need to bond with a human Master to reach the full extent of their power, and that Ultimo (the embodiment of goodness) is awfully, AWFULLY huggy when it comes to his Master, Yamato.
Yamato himself is in love with a girl, Sayama, but he was more than willing to "kiss Ultimo awake" (like sleeping beauty), when he thought that was how Master and Doll bonded (not to mention, he was pinning Ultimo to the bed, wearing only his boxers in the almost-kiss scene...).
To make things all the more complicated, there's also Yamato's best friend, Rune, who is in love with Yamato, has been since a previous life (I'm speaking canon here, not fangirl ramblings.), and gets "possessed" by the Sin Jealousy because of Ultimo's awfully close relationship with Yamato.
Then there's Vice. And Vice is... Vice. The Embodiment of Evilness, he's a sick thing that likes two things only. Destruction, and Ultimo - or should I say, fighting Ultimo? He awakes first, and immediately starts wreacking havoc with the sole purpose (like it's hinted first, and confirmed later by Ultimo himself) to force Ultimo to wake up, so that he can finally see him again.
So there are hints of Ultimo→Yamato, Rune→Yamato, and even a tiny bit of Yamato→Ultimo, but ALAS! The one pairing I love above every other is sadly overlooked: I obviously fell hard and fast for the Vice/Ultimo pairing.
I adore the idea of Ultimo loving Vice, his twin/counterpart/other half of his soul/nemesi with all his heart; while Vice (being the embodiment of evil) can desire Ultimo, need him like one might need the missing half of their soul, is possessive of him and wants all his attention, always, but... is uncapable of feeling any actual love for the other Doll.
