Whoa! I was gonna go back through my posts to find last years New Year list... and realised it was only two entries ago! Man... I really need to pull my finger out.
Anyway...
And please folks, do it yourself as well. I like to read what other people come up with.
1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
- Went up to Sydney and back in a single day. Also took a work trip to Gippsland. Fuck it's a big area! Didn't get much time to do much more than see clients and sleep.
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
- Never have, but this year I'm going to force myself to write more of my own work and take better care of my health. Sure, hypothyroid means I'll always have a weight problem, but I really should try to minimise it.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
- One or two, not many.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
- Nobody close, no.
5. What countries did you visit?
- Just this great big wide brown flat mysterious crazy country.
6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you didn't have in 2011?
- Last year I said I was hoping to be in my own place. Hasn't happened yet, but I'm looking around at which parts of town would be the wisest investment when the time comes.
7. What date(s) from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
- Hmm... umm... well there was... no... none really.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
- Nothing particularly stands out.
9. What was your biggest failure?
- As above.
10. Did you suffer any illness or injury?
- A bit of flu that took a while to kick... and an infected boil which eventually cleared up.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
- Khet. Come on people, it's laser chess! What's not to love? Also the final volumes of Transmetropolitan and Y:The Last Man.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
- The makers of the Tintin movie for getting so very right.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
- Tony Abbott and Sohpie Mirabella... and a certain local councillor. And there's me thinking that using the post office to send threatening letters to someone was a criminal offence.
14. Where did most of your money go?
- Books, DVDs, miniatures, magazines... again.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
- The recovery of two classic Doctor Who episodes from the 60s.
16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
- Just like last year, the music was really sucky. Winner for most hated song of the year is such an easy choice, shooting out to a massive lead early in the year and staying way in front... Adele 'Someone Like You'. The sooner people realise she sucks and forgets her forever the better.
17. Are you:
i. happier or sadder?
- A little happier.
ii. thinner or fatter?
- A bit thinner, but still room for improvement.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
- My own writing. Not the job that's the problem, I'm just lazy about it when I get home.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
- Eating deep fried foods. I really shouldn't do that so much.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
- People came over, lots of fun.
21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
- Various sales reps probably.
22. Did you fall in love in 2011?
- Sorta kinda maybe dunno but probably not.
23. How many one-night stands?
- Unchanged. After all this time I get the feeling I'm just wasting my time.
24. What was your favorite TV program? New stuff?
- The Doc obviously, Castle, The Joy of Sets, Community
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
- Not that I can think of.
26. What was the best book you read?
- Starting to really get into the Rebus novels by Ian Rankin. Northerners looks promising.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
- Really starting to see what Ross likes about My Chemical Romance (actually, they're hilarious)... he's not a musician, but I love the comedy of Frankie Boyle.
28. What did you want and get?
- That knife rack that looks like a multiple stab victim.
29. What did you want and not get?
- Same old.
30. What were your favorite films of this year?
- Source Code, Thor, Captain America, The Adventures of Tintin
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
- 32. Worked. Went out for dinner.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
- Last year I said 'A love life/ sex life. Seems to be something that happens to other people.' and I see no reason to change it.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
- Jeans, t shirt, shorts, type combos. I do look good in a suit though. This year the t-shirts are getting funnier.
34. What kept you sane?
- Same old.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
- Nobody new.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
- The coalition blaming the government for everything! Including when a couple of coalition members quit the party in order to become independents. This is clearly an internal party matter. How can you blame the other side for that?
37. Who did you miss?
- Nobody new.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
- Bianca, Cassie, Ali, that girl at choir who pulled out early on before I could get her name or phone number.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:
- If you put the effort in to getting stuff done for people earlier than they hoped, don't make a habit of it, or they come to expect it.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
- Until you come back where you belong it's just another lonely Sunday.
