Drinking with the Teachers - The Bloom is Off the Rose

May 20, 2016 10:25

During the first week of school everyone was friendly, and the new teachers were very helpful in getting us settled. Now that the second week has arrived, people's true nature and habits are beginning to be seen.

I wanted to make a good first impression and get along well with everyone. But I think I noticed that the Irish teachers thought I was asking too many questions after a while. Maybe I seemed too bewildered or something. They're still nice and helpful though.

After work tonight I met with some teachers at Samsen soi 2 area. It was definitely fun at first, but this one teacher, Jamie (from England) seems to have turned on me a little bit. When Rich was talking to me he remarked "Well, it looks like Rick has found his girlfriend for the night!", meaning me. I didn't like that.

And I think as we drank more and the night wore on, people didn't want to talk with me as much, which made me wonder what I had done wrong. But this always happens, so I wasn't too surprised when I didn't feel welcome as part of the "gang" after a while. Not to say that they didn't include me, but on the other hand they didn't seem enthusiastic to hang out with me, or listen to what I had to say. *sigh*

By the end of the night, Rich, the guy who drove us there to Kaosan Road, disappeared. He doesn't seem to handle alcohol well. He had told me "don't worry" and that he'd give me a ride somewhere, but I had a feeling he wouldn't stick around. So then I ended up walking for many miles, and finally taking a taxi to get home.

Bee was not pleased, but wanted to say "How do you feel now that the shoe is on the other foot?" Because before she wouldn't answer my questions about where she was going and what she was doing, and last night she wanted to ask me the same questions.

In any case, she was affectionate this morning, so that seemed good. It made me feel confident about our relationship again.
