Top Anime & Manga for Summer 2008

ICv2 is back to report on the top selling anime & manga properties for the US during the months of May-July. For the gazillinth time in a row, Naruto was the top selling manga franchise. In terms of anime properties, Batman: Gotham Knight was the top title. Not surprising, really. A mainstream title usually takes the #1 position. Either that or DragonBall Z, which of course got #2.

Even after all these years, DBZ continues to make more money than any other anime. FUNimation does good with that title, but than again Funi also does good in general. ICv2 also reports that they now take almost a whole third in the American anime market. Viz comes in second, followed by ADV (still?), Bandai, & Media Blasters. I'm surprised Bandai isn't higher up. Despite Viz having the three biggest titles in anime right now (Naruto, Bleach, Death Note), Bandai's the only company outside of Funi right now that's actually actively licensing titles. The top 10 for both anime & manga can be found below:
