Some more light has been shed on the recent
cancellation of the controversial Nymphet manga, which people really haven't stopped talking about since it happened. Now the manga-ka of the manga (known as Kodomo no Jikan in Japan) & the president of Seven Seas Entertainment have spoken out about the cancellation.
Japanese author Kaworu Watashiya (who's a girl, believe it or not) wrote on her personal blog about the American cancellation. She had to run the stories through online translators, & it seems she doesn't quite get why it was canceled. A translation of what she wrote:
"I wondered what was in the second volume that would cause a problem that wasn’t in the first, so I used a web translator to look at the BBSs over there and “incest” was pointed out, so that’s probably about Reiji [Aki’s cousin, currently taking care of Rin] and Aki [Rin’s mother]."
No, incest was not the reason why the manga couldn't be published here in the US. Instead president Jason DeAngelis explained in his new blog that although the first 2 volumes were very risque, the third volume had crossed the line. There's a scene in that volume where the little girl Rin is hopping up & down on the teacher's lap, & he starts to become... excited. So he quickly grabs Rin & tells her to hold still & not to move. He then proceeds to count prime numbers in his head in order to calm himself down.
This was the biggest problem that DeAngelis had. Up till this point, Rin tried to make advances on her teacher, but he never acted on them. But here it crossed the line, showing that he was attracted to her. & that's apparently too much to be published in America. Never mind any of
the other scenes in the series (NSFW). Check out what each person had to say about the cancellation here:
