Mirai Nikki, aka the Future Diary, has been enjoying a successful run as a horror anime series over the past few months- both in Japan & simulcasted online (including right here on NebsTV). But once the anime ends in March, a new adaptation of the manga is set to begin in April- one of the live-action variety.
That's right, Mirai Nikki will become the latest anime/manga to be turned into a live-action drama. This trend has been growing quite a lot over recent years, & last year especially. 2011 alone saw live-action series for Detective Conan, Ouran High School Host Club, Arakawa Under the Bridge, Hayate the Combat Butler, & more.
There do seem to be some differences with this version, though. The title will be "Mirai Nikki -Another:World-," & seems to star a brand new character named Arata Hoshino who was never featured in the manga. Masaki Okada, who got his start in the live-action version of Otomen, will star in that role. Yusuke Watanabe, who wrote the live-action versions of 20th Century Boys, Gantz, & Bloody Monday is scripting the series.
