Maybe it’s just me, but
Squid Girl has been one of the surprises this season due to its total lack of any ecchi fan-service. Its titular character is just so moe & cute that I would expect some sort of level of skin exposer to go along with it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I expect every series to be on the same level of ecchiness as, say, Motto To Love-ru or Samurai Girls (to say nothing of
Yosuga no Sora). But something along the lines of OreImo (which is mostly light on the fan-service) shouldn’t be unexpected. Instead though, Squid Girl has been surprisingly innocent. Someone high up in the production of the series must be making the call on that, as one of the animation directors on the show has made it perfectly clear that he would have been more than happy to show off Squid Girl’s goods.
The director goes by the name Rutaro, & in addition to working on anime, he also draws fan-art online- much of which lies in the ero department. But recently he’s gotten into hot water over the above hentai art of Squid Girl. Considering Rutaro’s an actual artist on the series, some are claiming this to be an “official” erotic drawing of the protagonist. The artist has a Pivix account where he posts his personal drawings, though there’s no sign of the Squid Girl piece. However he has posted hentai of
Baka & Test, which is another series he has officially directed.
