To celebrate the end of the K-ON anime, I'm gonna be posting some manga (both official & otherwise) over the next few days that remind us of how awesome these girls were. Particularly Yui & Azunyan. & what better way to kick things off then with the the final chapter from the original manga series?
The K-ON anime & manga shared a
simultaneous ending, something that seems to be coming more & more common these days. The ending for the two different mediums were quite similar too, both basically telling the same tale. Well, as much as a 30-minute anime episode & a 4-koma manga strip can be similar. Both had the four main girls graduating, Azusa breaking into tears & begging not to leave her, & the gang performing a new song just for her. There are differences though.
In the manga, Azusa directs her tears & begging more so to Yui, while in the anime she does so to the band as a whole (promising not to get mad about Yui forgetting the lyrics & hugging her, versus not mad over the group not practicing & being lazy). In the manga, Yui hugs Azusa & thanks her, while in the anime there's no hugging, but Yui gives her a photo & a five-petal flower. & of course in the anime, we actually get to hear the new song, & what a beautiful song it is.
As for which version I prefer, overall I gotta go with the anime. The main different thing I liked better about the manga was Azu~nyan directing her feelings more directly to Yui, not & the band. That & the fact that Yui hugged her. I love supporting the Yui x Azu relationship. One of my favorite yuri couples ever. ^_^ But right before that, Azusa was pretty relentless in yelling at Yui, which kinda kills the mood. That wasn't there in the anime. & of course, hearing that beautiful song for Azusa was just great. But the manga was still great too. You can downloaded an English scanlated version here:
