Winners: Shana (Shakugan No Shana S), Yuno (Hidamari Sketch x ☆☆☆)
Yes, Shana wins! In fact she got a pretty decent amount of more votes than Yuri, though it was by no means an easy victory. Shana managed to get over 400 votes, while Yuri neared that amount as well- numbers practically unheard of in first round matches. Then again, this wasn't your typical first round match. Such a shame for Yuri too, as she would've gone far in this tournament had she not been dealt such an early bad hand. Angel Beats has quite the strong fan-base as well, but has losing their poster girl in the first round killed off all their confidence to move onward? Is it all downhill from here for AB?
Driven by the powerful Shana-v-Yuri match, the other group saw a high vote count as well. As predicted, Yuno easily won her match. Shana's co-star & rival Kazumi sadly came in a distant second place, & another Angel Beats character fell as well. Full results:

Today's matchups look pretty predictable. In the first grouping it's Hanyuu from "Higurashi," while in the other you got Mayoi from "Bakemonogatari." Both should have little to no trouble advancing forward. Hanyuu, who's entering her third & most likely final Saimoe tournament, might have the equally young & adorable Nymph (Sora no Otoshimono) to worry about, but I still think Hanyuu has this in the bag. & while the once unstoppable force known as the Mikuru Beam faces off against Mayoi, you can't help but feel that the Haruhi girls (save perhaps Nagato) have little hope of making it far this year.
