For awhile there was hope that Viz Media would continue releasing subbed episodes of the "Prince of Tennis" anime on their
Viz Anime video site past episode 50. That was the point where Viz stopped releasing the series on DVD & the dub was
removed from Toonami Jetstream. After all, they're still posting new subbed episodes of Hikaru no Go that are now long past where
its DVDs stopped.
Unfortunately, it's been a couple weeks since Viz added episode 50 to their site & Hulu, & nothing new has come since. Viz was posting two episodes a week, but for about a month now we've gotten nothing in terms of Prince of Tennis. While unfortunate, it's not totally unexpected. While Hikaru no Go's DVDs were canceled prematurely as well, we know for a fact that Viz still went on working with that series past that point, as all but the three final dubbed episodes were
streamed on Jetstream (& I swear to god Viz better show those final three this time around). PriTen, meanwhile, never saw any more episodes get added. So while Viz cared enough about Hikaru to finish that series without a proper DVD release, Prince of Tennis sadly doesn't get the same treatment. Though keep in mind that it is a much longer series as well.
In other Viz Media news, they've confirmed that they'll be getting the
latest Bleach episodes from Japan as well. Since they'll be showing the episodes a week after they air in Japan, Viz has chosen to call these "quick-casts" instead of simulcasts. It's basically the same thing they've been doing with
Naruto Shippuden &
One Piece for awhile now. Viz only said the episodes would be coming "very, very soon" without giving an exact date, though I suspect they'll launch on June 14- exactly one week after Crunchyroll began their simulcast. What's more, Viz also said that even more "quick-cast" series will be added to their site in the "not-too-distant future." Hard to say what other shows they could be adding, but I guess "Reborn" is a possibility. & who knows, possibly even some unlikely titles like Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's or Detective Conan.
