Will be actually quite glad when this week is over, I got badly sick the other day after trying to taste a bit of Angelica's cheese pastie, needless to say I will not be attempting anything quite like that again for about another four weeks. I had a soreness, I would not say pain as it didn't really hurt I was just aware that there was something above and below my new stomach the following day so I had to revert back to soft foods for 24 hours. Angelica bought me some fresh country vegetable soup from the fridge section in Tesco, I managed to eat a whole bowl then about an hour later had another one which went down exceptionally well.
Tiredness and coldness are two things which most surgeons and nurses told me I'd be struck down with occasionally from week four post op onwards. What they did not say is that the coldness is like what you would get if you'd been sitting in a bath full of ice for about fifteen minutes and got out and stood in front of a cold fan blowing cold air over you. Honestly when it happens, even laying under my electric quilt turned right up it takes about an hour to warm up. The tiredness is striking about twice a day, it started at the beginning of this week I noticed when washing up that I came over a bit weak and had to sit down, then I went to lay down instead as I'd started to feel cold too, within minutes I was asleep and stayed like that for two hours. This has been happening daily and about twice a day a few days this week. I pray so hard I'm not coming down with something horrid, I dont think I am I mean I feel ok the rest of the time and this was expected although I sincerely believe the details of what actually happens were played down considerably in an attempt not to scare people.
Also the anaesthetic leaving my system is something I have also been prepared for and going through, its been a real rollercoaster ride this week so much so I've asked my brother and his beautiful family not to come over today, better to leave things until I'm brighter I think, I had cancelled all appointments on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, basically the last three days and curled up as much as possible instead. That's why this week coming starting tomorrow I have lots on, today I will just rest now instead and look after myself.
Hubby has been amazing these last few days and working very hard to make changes in our home at last. I think the new thermal lined curtains he's been putting up all week are making a huge difference already, the drafts have been sorted too which is resulting in the heating having to be on less even though its snowed a fair amount this week, its still not a patch on any icy or snowy weather we used to live with in the north east though.
Two more weeks till I see my surgeon Shaw Somers again, being filmed that week too so it will be interesting again because they want to do me cooking again, ideas for what to do for them this time are being drafted, Angelica is away with the explorer scouts again this weekend so tomorrow night we are going to draft up plans to put together another high protein meal to cook on camera. I've done one and she's done one so far, this time though we thought we might like to try one together. Cant wait to see the film, they already sent me the DVD of my surgery, can not believe how injured inside my abdominal cavity actually was. Glad its all been fixed now, I noticed a massive difference in strength almost straight away in the hospital that first night when I could get up to use the toilet. Previous hospital stays saw me having to be lifted on to something to empty my bladder so definitely a massive improvement and until this week, week four post operatively, I didn't need to lay down in bed to recover have not even taken anything for pain as there has been none whatsoever. I feel so blessed to have had such a skilled surgeon and immensely proud that I fought the NHS and won the way I did.
New goals for 2013 have needed to be written up and planned for as my main focus during 2012 were to loose a hundred pounds and be operated on by Shaw Somers, both of which I achieved. More on 2013 goals later though after I see my trainer and get everything signed off.
This week too I have had lots of forms to fill in for various things, I finished all Angelica's before she had to go away to camp this weekend but the others are all lengthy and so are at the half filled stage. Tonight I might sit down with them again and do a bit more on each one. Nothing major they are all just routine stuff, I'm also itching to do some spinning and loom knit one of my many designs so I can publish the pattern for you all to make, its another beret style hat designed with boys and men mainly but can easily be dressed up with flowers or bows for a more feminine look, I might even write in a ruffle so it has a frill, will see how I'm fixed for time this week and whether it will work.
Loving the iPad and iPhone apps,
Magic Piano is one that has captured everyone's attention this week especially Harvey and Ivan. I have a bunch of others, so has Joe but I'll do a separate post about those this week too as there are rather too many to go into now.
Its not long now till we go on holiday again, I absolutely can not wait to go shopping for clothing with my stunningly beautiful teenage daughters for this trip, Imogen has quite radical ideas and even drawn designs showing what she wants things to look like, I think she is going to do exceptionally well at the entrance exams for chemistry and science which will be coming up next month. We've decided to carry on home schooling but taking advantage of flexi schooling where she just uses an academy for the sciences which she will need to start this year to qualify for the medical schools she wants to apply to in four years time. Eeek! they grow up so fast its incredible. You sort of blink one day and realise there are grown people living with you, I remember the moment it happened with Angelica last year, I looked to my left on the sofa and there was a grown lady sitting at the other end of it doing her mascara! it won't be long now and she will actually turn 18, an official adult, I feel so incredibly proud of her especially, she has worked so hard at everything and gaining awards that she can use in the future all the time, her CV is looking very impressive. At our scouting unit they are having a 50 years celebration in February, Angelica will be the one who gets to re-invest all the leaders when they renew their Promise with her, I think that is awesome they have asked her to do this special job, its a real honour.
Anyway, my daughter will be finishing real soon so we can all go to pick her up from the camp site, after I try and cook something that is, I think I'll still do the meal I had planned for today anyway, the kids have been really excited and looking forward to this one so it feels nice to carry on with it even though its just going to be us for today. If I have any energy left this evening I will watch a film with Angelica curled up in my bed under the electric quilt together for an end to a special Sunday homecoming day.
