I just spent a wonderful hour working with four girls who are going to become (part of) our council's flag ceremony team, and they're great. We're gearing up for our Annual Meeting April 23rd, where about 1000 people will be watching, including the CEO of the national chapter, and these four fabulous young ladies are ready to do the drill team thing and look spectacular. They even got the bit down where "If there are tables in the way, like right here, go from the four-across to single file, let the American Flag lead, and pause on the other side, wait for everybody to line up four-across again, and keep going." Gave me goosebumps in a good way.
So I'm feeling very patriotic right now, that YES this is a significant part of our organization, and WOW this is something I can do - to help pass on good knowledge of how to respect the symbol of our nation, and making possible this quiet-yet-significant ritual, that these girls (and adults!) will remember the rest of their lives. As many problems as there are, I love my country, and I'm proud to display the flag.
