I made some wands last night. Pics and some tips are under the cut.
Basically I used
this tutorial. For the Bellatrix like wand I cut it at the joint and stuffed in a wadded up napkin and put paper over it. Then loads of glue. Pro-tip, wait just a few seconds before molding. Then, and this is a must, lick (or use water on) your finger or whatever part of your hand is shaping. It keeps the heat down but it also keeps the glue from catching on your skin and pulling away. If your fingers are wet the glue just mushes about like hot playdough instead of stretching like mozzarella cheese.
Also a must is a base coat. The paint does not want to stick to the dried glue. So a base coat of either light brown or beige is advised. Just make sure if you want a light wand you use a light base. I made that mistake on the lightest wand. I just kept painting them all the same to rush through so when I got to styling the lightest one I had to give it another base coat of a lighter color before I could put on the final color. And all the paint peeled up the tiny tip in the middle that you get from rolling.
And if you have beads laying around use them. You can't really see it but I put itty bitty beads in clusters on the "branches" of the lightest wand and in the hollow of the handle that you can't see. I also put some on the tip of my sisters and on the stock of the mid-brown and purple one. It's just nice for texture.
Even though they're made of paper they're pretty sturdy. If you roll them tight enough they feel pretty substantial. I plan on using them when I go to Islands of Adventure on the 25th but I think they'll last a while. Unless I get them wet.
If you want to ask about them, like a tip or something just message me or comment.
