Well, that had to have been the worst and most useless doctor's appointment I've ever had. Not only did I have to wait over an hour from my appointment time to be seen but the doctor seemed to not give a shit at all and only gave me five minutes of her time before running out again. This was a new doc for me since I usually don't bother seeing a GP every year.
First off, she didn't listen to my lungs or heart or feel my glands when I told her I was sick. She merely looked down my throat, and said "you have a sore throat." Umm yeah, that's why I came in. Didn't ask me what my symptoms were and when I asked her what her opinion was on whether it seemed like Chicken Pox coming on and if so what to do in regards to the baby said, "I don't know, call the Dept. of Health, they'll have information." Okayyy....You're a "family doctor" one would assume you know something about babies...no?
No apparently, since she couldn't or wouldn't answer any questions I had about what precautions I should take. Not only that when I mentioned I breastfeed(in order to ask if there was any special consideration with regards to medications) she made a face and said "you should stop doing that." Without any explanation of "why" I should stop doing that, although the look on her face seemed to say she found the whole idea distasteful.
The baby's doctor has told me to not stop breastfeeding her when I'm sick since it actually gives her an immune boost as my body produces antibodies to fight my illness, she's actually less likely to get sick than she would being fed a bottle.
They took a strep test, it was negative but she gave me antibiotics anyway even though nothing indicated the need for them and she said it was probably a virus of some sort and nothing could be done about it. I haven't filled the script and won't, I don't take antibiotics unless I have a good reason.
The only useful thing to come out of it was I got a flu shot. Seriously, a really subpar experience and I won't be going back. Should my sore throat stick around a few more days I'll go see a real doctor since I came away feeling like the one I saw today was barely competent.
So, I have no idea if I'm heading to Poxville or if I'm just a little under the weather. All I can do is hope and take it easy for now and hope this passes quickly.
