History vs. pre-History

I got into a heated argument with a young Spaniard a few days ago. It started out by him saying that the history in the USA isn't as old as Europe. I told him that as a nation, the USA's history is young but generally speaking, the history of the Americas go way, way back ( Read more... )

Good point, each of these civilizations had their own writing systems. Even in our culture (Kanaka Oiwi) we had petroglyphs as well, but we focused on oral traditions.

I wish I remembered of the destructions that the Spaniards have done. I was so upset w/ this kid, I was fuming behind my ears! But I could only thought what it meant as far as aboriginal Hawaiians were concerned trying to apply my experiences in my argument.

Those are good points, thanks for sharing. I just wish I thought of them at that time, but I was seriously pissed at his ignorant comment.

Agreed with everything.

As for modern day convenience, what exactly has that done for most of us? Made us overprivileged, out of touch with the natural world, out of shape, isolated workaholics who are often times more unhappy than happy. Gee, thanks technology!

This sentence makes me very sad, but it's true =( Sometimes I wish so badly that I could live back in the time of our ancestors.

Well yeah, I agree that those things are great; I really do appreciate all our modern comforts! But it's the things you mentioned, the getting rid of our dependency on technology, getting more in touch with nature, and living a simpler life that I really miss.
Thankfully, those things ARE attainable. ^^
